UPP Faculty Member Presents at the Moroccan Association of Teachers of English Conference
New UPP faculty member Rodrigo Islas had the privilege to attend the Moroccan Association of Teachers of English (MATE) Conference the first week of April in Marrakech, Morocco. The conference theme was “Third Millennium ELT Curriculum: Towards Building Capacity, Empowering Leadership and Developing Entrepreneurial Skills.” Mr. Islas was selected to present a workshop on jazz chants as a way to improve stress and rhythm in the EFL collaborative classroom.
The purpose of his workshop was to provide ESL/EFL teachers with teaching strategies of the 21st Century so they may adapt Jazz chants in their own learning context. Participants had the chance to see how IUGB students are developing communicative competence through various action learning activities. At the same time, teachers created their own jazz chant lessons and enhanced their awareness to empower youth with meaningful authentic collaborative projects. This was a great opportunity to share experiences and learn from action learning methodologies used at IUGB, which promote collaborative development in the 21st century. Mr. Islas will share the same workshop at the CINELTA Conference, which will be hosted at IUGB on May 6 and 7.
