We Pay Tribute to Our Beloved Colleague, Dr. Janet Wozenski

Janet WozenskiOur colleague, Dr. Janet Wozenski, former Registrar, passed away on December 16, 2016 in the United States. Janet was well-loved and admired by the entire IUGB community for her enduring commitment to serve.  Janet had a warm, courageous heart and always supported those who needed her. We are all united in our grief and our memories of her incredible spirit. Janet will not be forgotten.

Janet received her Ph.D. in Nutrition Biochemistry from Oregon State University, Corfvallis, Oregon, USA in 1977. From 1968 to 1978, Janet conducted high-level research, reflecting her interests in the fields of Physiology, Biochemical, and Human and Animal Nutrition. In 1985, she moved to Côte d’Ivoire where she worked until December of 2016.  She spent her last 13 years at IUGB and played a leading role there from 2003-2016.  She held many titles: Academic Dean, Director of Students Services, Registrar (2007-2008); Dean of Admission and Registrar, Director of Academic Advising Center (2008-2010); Acting Vice President for Academic Affairs (2010-2012) and Registrar (2012-2016). She also taught Mathematics and Nutrition courses.  Janet taught and provided skilled guidance in high, middle and primary schools in French and English, as well as in universities.  She spent 25 years administering clinics, K-12 school computer department, community programs, yearbook production and start-up university projects. For 10 years, she worked in Côte d’Ivoire’s primary health care center.

Janet authored several publications; handbooks, journal articles, and dissertations. She was a member of the International Society for Technical Education and the “Association pour la Promotion”.

Her community services in Côte d’Ivoire included student research supervision at the FATAEC Master’s Program, Boy Scouts, Sainte Cecile Roman Catholic Church, and in the English-speaking community.

Janet was the loving wife of Dr. Mbuki V. Mwamufiya and a caring mother of four children.  She was a woman of exceptional ability and influence.  May she rest in peace.
