The partnership between IUGB and the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) provides opportunities for UAB masters students in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) to gain teaching experience at IUGB. This allows them to complete their practicum requirement in an international environment and increases opportunities for intercultural interaction for our students.

IUGB is hosting its second intern, Ms. Katelyn Howard, for the spring 2019 semester. She has always been passionate about traveling and learning about different cultures, and is excited to learn from the other amazing English instructors at IUGB and put into practice all that she has learned in her master’s program.

Ms. Howard has always been passionate about traveling and learning about different cultures. After completing her B.A. in Spanish Language and Literature, she spent two years living and studying Arabic in Oman. She loves being the student in a language class, but has found a new love of being the teacher in a language class. Her favorite part of a language classroom is the vulnerability that language requires of students. In the language classroom, students cannot be afraid to fail and that kind of attitude creates a unique and strong classroom culture bond. She is excited to learn from the other amazing English instructors at IUGB and put into practice all that she has learned in her Master’s program.
