Dr. Gilles Kouassi is associate Professor of chemistry in the School of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. He completed his PhD and Master from the University of Helsinki in Finland. . He has previously worked in various international settings, as a research scientist at the University of Helsinki and the University of Nottingham in England. From 2004 to 2017, he worked in the USA, as Postdoctoral Research Scientist at the Pennsylvania State University, Visiting Lecturer at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign, Assistant Professor and Associate Professor of Physical Chemistry at Western Illinois University.

Before joining IUGB, he was consultant in the chemistry, pharmaceutical, nanotechnology, and food sectors in the USA. Dr. Kouassi has taught and/or developed over 20 chemistry courses in diverse areas including, physical chemistry, quantum mechanics, thermodynamics, statistical thermodynamics, nanotechnology, general chemistry, analytical chemistry, food chemistry, inorganic chemistry, and material science at graduate and undergraduate levels. He is the author of numerous peer-reviewed articles and book chapters and has served as invited reviewer for more than 30 international peer-review scientific journals.

At the organizational level he has occupied the position of Secretary of the Illinois State Academy of Science (ISAS). He is Certified Quality Manager/Organizational Excellence from the American Society of Quality (ASQ). Dr. Kouassi is member of the American Chemical Society (ACS), professional member of the Institute of Food Technology (IFT), and Associate member of the American Society of Quality (ASQ).
